Mid Sem Crit

So mid sem crit is over! however, for me this means more work as my previous design was much too different to my matrix building- which is what I am trying to base my design on.

I think I will restart my building this holiday and try to make it more like the Barcelona Pavilion(my matrix building by Mies van der Rohe)..

Here are some images of the building:

At the moment I'm thinking to make my building with physical aspects such as boxy looking, flat roof, floating, pools, and free flowing.

Also need to decide on the 'four people' for the brief.

Dreaming of Sleep

Place for peace and relaxation. (To also gaze at the stars)

The chairs retracting to create more floor space
Chairs fully retracted.
 Midnight fun..

Roof exanding to give better view of the sky/surroundings

Roof becoming transparent for best view

 Shifting..
All walls completely transparent (used 'ghosting effect')

Finished! (for now...)-ready for thursday crit

Labs

Spending the whole day in the computer lab seems to be pretty effective.

 scratch!

Vanessa's sculptie (the stick looking thing) which she is trading with me

Angela's scultie (the flame) that we r trading

Yejin's cool stairs :D

Desktop Crit?

So today in design everyone logged onto second life and we had a mini-desktop crit since all our objects were too 'abstract' which meant we couldnt trade them (we are meant to be trading with each other scripts, prims, sculpties and incorporating them into our design).

here are some images from this mornings design session

work work work..

Got my sheets back yay. so we are eventually going to be designing a building for five 'people'  (we can kinda make them up..). and everyone has a different occupation etc etc.. we'll be considering what each person needs/wants and it must include atleast one sculptie.

ive been working on second life for a bit but haven't made anything worthwhile yet.

SecondLife

So.. I've starting sculpting on second life and I decided to make a chair which has a sculptie map looking like this
<apparently this thing makes my prim look like this

Anyway, later on after some editing and scripting i made my texture move and whole prim rotate. Here are some photos ..

Weeks 6-7 Second Life

We are starting our Second Life project for weeks 6-7 which is going to be running over the mid-semester break (yay?)...

However first things first-mid sem crit on thursday! so we are supposed to figure out our designs and ideas by then and also fulfill this brief regarding 5 other 'people'. But i've lost my sheet for the time being so can't quote it..

Animation

Sort of changed my idea slightly to just connection/social interaction through internet and social networking as opposed to all kinds of interaction (since this happens on a daily basis anyway)

Extensity

I've been given the word 'extensity' to incorporate into my design.

extensity [ɪkˈstɛnsɪtɪ]
n
1. (Psychology) Psychol that part of sensory perception relating to the spatial aspect of objects
2. Rare the condition of being extensive or extended

extensity - limits - social interaction has no limits?

not sure how to incorporate at the moment

Idea Block

After a lot of brainstorming I have decided to base my building on sustenance in terms of social interaction.

Everyday we interact with people in countless ways (both direct and indirectly), whether it's acknowledging a stranger as you give way to them, eating lunch with a friend or emailing relatives overseas. Nowadays with the addition of technology, we are able to communicate with people all over the world from just a desktop computer, and simultaneously as well.

As humans we thrive on human interaction and cannot survive without it. Just knowing there are others around is comforting for most people.

Social interaction is sometimes gender based as well, the way in which females communicate will differ from the way which males communicate/interact.

My intention is to create a building which will allow countless ways to interact.

Weeks 4-5 Sustenance - Animating Architectural Drawings

sus·te·nance/ˈsəstənəns/Noun

1. Food and drink regarded as a source of strength; nourishment.
2. The maintaining of someone or something in life or existence

I've been looking into my daily activities and not just needs, but also wants. Things that I use/do everyday (eg.food, water, makeup, bus, shoes, clothes etc.). Even though some of the things aren't necessarily 'needed' for maintaining my existence, they are some what the things that 'sustain' me, things that I require daily.

Also been looking into sustaining socially. Human interaction,contact,communication..
